The Wine Independent Lisa Perrotti-Brown - 13 Jul 22
Deep garnet in color, the 2016 Le Dragon de Quintus is a tad closed to begin, offering glimpses at scents of baked blackberries, stewed black plums, and fallen leaves, plus touches of licorice and tar. Full-bodied, the palate delivers plums, juicy black fruits with plush tannins, and a lively backbone, finishing with impressive length.

The 2016 Dragon de Quintus has a fleshy, dried-blood-tinged bouquet that comes across more savory than its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, but rather rustic at the moment, and it attenuates slightly toward the finish. More substance is required. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux, globally renowned, is crafted in France’s Bordeaux region from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These full-bodied wines feature dark fruit flavours, earthy and spicy notes, and often benefit from ageing. Top producers include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Lafite Rothschild. White Bordeaux, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, offers styles from crisp to rich, with citrus and tropical notes. Sweet Bordeaux wines, like Sauternes, are famed for their rich sweetness and flavours of apricot and honey, with Château d’Yquem as a leading producer.
